Eye and ear protection are essential for a safe and successful shooting or hunting experience. Canadian Tire has a range of eye and hearing protection such as earmuffs, ear plugs, shooting glasses, and more.

Why are eye and ear protection necessary for shooting?

Shooting firearms can be dangerous for your sight and hearing if your ears and eyes aren’t protected. Properly fitting shooting ear protection and eye protection can protect you from the loud sounds and small particles from the projectile. Even when cleaning your firearm, you’ll want to wear these protective items.

What ear protection should I use for shooting?

There is a variety of ear protection to choose from to suit your needs. Purchasing specialized ear gear will ensure you are shielded from the level of noise that a firearm will make. Shooters can also double up on ear protection by using both earplugs and earmuffs which, on average, have around 30 dB of noise reduction. In total, that would provide a combined 60 dB reduction in noise.

Are earplugs or earmuffs better for shooting?

Both earplugs and earmuffs are suitable for shooting, however, each provides its own benefits. Molded foam plugs are inserted into the ear and can contour to the ear. Plugs are affordable and convenient to wear and come in digital versions, non-disposable options, and disposable options. Earmuffs cover the entire ear for the feeling of extra protection and can come with great technology features to further reduce sounds.

What eye protection should I wear when shooting?

There is a range of shooting glasses that will protect you from discharge or debris and improve your overall shooting experience. Certain lenses can provide better clarity or tinted lenses for better contrast. Some glasses offer wrap-around eye protection, while others are more of a traditional design but have slip-resistant materials. Always choose a pair that works best for you and provides the best protection for your eyes.
