Product Details

This Whirlpool 40,000 Grain Water Softener removes up to 125 grains per gallon of hardness minerals to help prevent build-up of calcium and magnesium deposits throughout your home. The 6th Sense technology monitors your water usage habits and regenerates the resin at optimal times to minimize salt and water consumption. An integrated monitor alerts you when the system needs salt or if there are any issues. The high-flow valve provides great water flow with minimal pressure drop so you'll barely notice a difference, but your dishes, fixtures and appliances will benefit from softer water that's easier on them.

  • Ideal for households of 1 to 5+ people with its 40,000 grain capacity

  • Multi-purpose system is designed to reduce up to 125 gpg hardness minerals and 10 ppm clear water (ferrous) iron

  • Built-in system monitor indicates whether the softener is operating properly and when it’s time to add additional salt

  • Included installation kit contains custom fit bypass valve that connects up to 1-1/4" copper, PEX or CPVC piping for a DIY installation

  • Ultra-high flow valve provides maximum water flow and pressure

  • Dimensions: L 20½" x W 15" x H 48" (L 52 cm x W 38 cm x H 122 cm)

  • Whirlpool Water Softeners are NSF certified to reduce hard water symptoms around your house, such as embarrassing stains, build-up on your faucets and spotting on dishes

  • Whirlpool Water Softener Cleanser (062-2012) maintains your water softener’s peak performance and helps remove harmful depots from the resin bed, valve and system

  • Purchase three bottles of Whirlpool Water Softener Cleanser (item 062-2012) per year and extend your Whirlpool Water Softener full-coverage parts and labor warranty for an additional year, up to five years. See owner’s manual for details.

Has fewer features than my last one.

I bought this but have not had it long enough for a real evaluation. One feature my last one had was a setting for the number of people in the house and which therefore affects the frequency of regeneration.

LEAKED all over floor, cracked resin/bead & motor

Cheap, terrible product. Lasted less than 5 years. No parts and no technician who can or wants to service it here in Canada. Whirlpool customer service is useless, kept me on the phone forever, then finally redirecting me to another source that manufactures these and puts the Whirlpool name on it. Would NOT recommend!!!

No, I do not recommend this product.

garbage company, don't waste your $

Whirlpool products are absolute garbage. Their support is even worse. I called product support, and the person on the line was reading a script without ever asking me any questions to be able to help. I asked to speak to the supervisor, and he REFUSED. I asked to speak to another agent, and he refused. The softener does not do what it's supposed to do at all. We purchased it a few months before having a chance to install it (we are rural) and now we are past Canadian Tires return policy HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE TIME, ENERGY AND MONEY WASTED

No, I do not recommend this product.

  • A: I believe 2 bags of salt per month. But it really depends upon the usage and no. of family members in the household.

Q: does this water softener remove iron?

  • A: We don't have iron in our water but I don't believe any water softener would remove iron. You would need to install different filters for that.

Q: This is a very nice softener that you sell. It would be nice if you also sold the 1" NPT connectors required to hook it up. Any Idea where to find these?

Q: whirlpool grain water softener (40,000) - We have calcium in our water, leaving a residue on glasses, kettles, shower doors etc., will this unit remove this problem

3 Answers
  • A: We purchased this unit because we have very hard water. It works very well and has improved the softness of our water for everyday use. The water is much softer and leaves much less residue on the shower doors, etc. The water is very soft for washing, shampooing, laundry, etc. We don't use the soft water for drinking or in the kettle, so I still have to rinse my kettle with vinegar a couple of times a week.

Q: How long does it take to produce soft water?

2 Answers
  • A: Took a few days for the softener to actually work first time. After that, it has been quite consistent. However, there are going to be days where you suddenly feel extremely soft water for a day and then it normalizes. Overall it works pretty good. I've had it installed for 7 months at this point and hard water spots have decreased significantly.

Q: Does this system have to gravity drain to the floor during the regeneration cycle or can it be discharged overhead and out through a basement wall near the ceiling?

2 Answers
  • A: I beleive it is just gravity feed to floor. Mine just drains into sump pump hole. Doesn,t appear to be much pressure as it drains.
