Pretty terrible, I bought 2 of these thinking 1 may not be enough, but turns out, 2 wasn't enough either. Once I removed the first bandage from the packaging, it just started separating at all of the folds. I couldn't wrap it around the affected part of the exhaust because the bandage kept splitting, and in the end, I was left with a bunch of useless 4 inch pieces. I opened the 2nd package hoping to salvage the repair, but it had the same exact issue. Pretty ridiculous because this stuff isn't sticky at all, so you need to put tension on it as you wrap it around the exhaust to get a good seal, but then that just ends up splitting it into pieces. Get the JB Weld Fiberglass repair instead of this junk.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello Andy, The VersaChem Heavy-Duty Bandage has a brown liner that is to be removed and then on both sides has a clear liner on both sides of the wrap bandage. It is noted on the instructions on the back of the package to use a adhesive tape or a a wire on the bandage at both ends and the center of the bandage. It then reads to idle the motor of drive for 20 minutes to allow for fusing/adhesion to the metal surface. Thank you

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: After applying the wrap to the warm pipe, is it acceptable to cover it with an aluminum can or light gauge sheet metal then securing it with gear clamps prior to running the engine, or will this prevent proper curing/hardening of the joint?

  • A: The tape didn't work for me..I used a tin can, rivets and muffler paste..was better then new.

Q: Is the tape sealed once heated or it can be removed afterward?

  • A: Hi Nadia, thanks for the great question. VersaChem Heavy-Duty Exhaust Bandage is designed to seal holes and cracks in your exhaust system components in temperatures up to 1039 °C (1900°F). It is an epoxy impregnated exhaust bandage that form a permanent bond to the metal on your exhaust system. Once cured, it cannot be easily unwrapped or peeled off, you may be able to grind it or chisel it off to remove it. Feel free to reach out to us with any further comments or questions. Please visit: https://www.permatex.com/contact/. Thank you.

Q: Slight separation in the seam on the top of my muffler (2015 Outlander). Wondering if I put a strip of the muffler tape across the seam and secured it with aluminium duct work tape until it heated up enough to seal the split and then remove the tape

  • A: Hello Pablo and thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, this method of repair most likely will not work well. it is recommended to wrap the repair tape while overlapping the wrap around the muffler. Thank you
