Worked fantastic and easy to use. Has many other uses.

I had a small crack in the bottom of my vintage outboard motor fuel tank. After making sure the area was clean, I worked a small amount of the epoxy and pressed it onto the tank. I smoothed out the edges and the patch worked perfectly. The product is similar to modelling clay so I used some of it to fix a broken decorative garden bird which had a broken leg. It's good as new. This product has many other uses as well. Its very strong when hardened.

Hello Trail, thank you for your feedback. Regarding your note that you could not get it to stick, it is important to follow the step by step directions on the rear of the package. Kindly start for optimum adhesion to clean the surface. Mix the epoxy stick to a uniform colour which if difficult it is noted to warm the epoxy stick to room temperature or above. Then apply to the repair within 30 minutes of mixing forcing it into any crack or hole being filled. It will take 1 hour to set and is fully cured in 24 hours.

Thank you

Worked well till now.

Q: Will fuel tank repair putty cure in the cold ? And will it work on a sending unit

2 Answers
  • A: It should work on the sending unit (Float type). Don’t know how it would cure in the cold, however the box or tube should have a suggested optimum curing temperature and time to cure at a temperature, that is not optimum.

Q: I have a "weeping" fuel leak near the rear bracket of my motorcycle gas tank. Do I need to remove the paint to bare metal for this product to work or will it stick to painted surfaces?

2 Answers
  • A: I think if paint is not flaking off and surface is clean it should stick. I found that if it's possible to apply when there is no fuel coming out and it cures before refilling it adheres best.

Q: will this work on aluminum diesel fuel tank

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question on Permatex® Gas Tank & Radiator Repair. Yes, this product can be used on aluminum tanks with diesel fuel. For best results, the fuel level should be below the repair point. Vent the fuel tank by removing the cap. Wash hands to prevent contamination of the putty. Sand the area around the damaged area. Be sure that all rusted areas and loose debris is removed. Carefully clean all surfaces around the hole using alcohol or another cleaner. Let dry. Cut off the amount of putty needed for the repair. (Use only enough putty to fill the hole and cover a 1/2" wide area around the outside of the hole). Knead the putty material until it is uniform in both color and consistency. Form the material into the shape of a cone and firmly push the pointed end into the hole. Flatten the excess material firmly and uniformly around the hole conforming to the gas tank metal surface. Wait at least 2 hours before filling the tank and turning on the vehicle. Thank you.

Q: Will it adhere to wet tank?

1 Answer
  • A: This repair putty seals small holes in METAL gas tanks and radiators. Yes, it will adhere to a wet surface, but not likely to an excessively leaking surface. Knead the epoxy stick to a uniform color. It works best by warming the epoxy stick to room temperature or slightly above. When applying to a damp, wet or slowly leaking area, work the mixed epoxy into the surface and apply pressure until adhesion begins to take effect. Fuel Tank Repair epoxy sets in 1 hour and fully cures in 5 hours.
