Q: How many Litres does the bottom compartment hold? I am wanting to know the size of a sleeping bag (in a compression sack or not) in Litres that would fill up the space in the bottom storage compartment.

A: The lower compartment would fit a sleeping bag in a compression stuff sack the is inside this dimension – 14” wide by 8” high approximately. Most sleeping bags used for backpacking come in compression or carry bags that reduce in size by using webbing straps and buckles. Most cold to warm bags would fit in this compartment. It can also be used for laundry.

A: The Outbound Backpack 60 can accept smaller, or compact sleeping bags in the main compartment. These bags would be the travel variety like those used in hostels or warmer temperatures. They would require a compression stuff sack to make them smaller in size. If you want to attach a sleeping bag to the pack we would suggest the 76-1894-6 Expedition style pack as it has two compression webbing straps on the pack bottom where you could roll up a larger sleeping bag and place it on the pack bottom.

A: The Outbound packs are treated with a DWR (durable water repellency) coating to resist water penetration. For heavier or constant rain, it is recommended that you use the rain-fly that is included in the top compartment of the backpack. The rainfly will provide more effective waterproof protection.

A: There are two zippers on the bottom entry to the backpack. A small luggage lock could be used to lock the zippers together. Certain locks work better with different zippers (cable locks versus standard locks) – it is advisable to check the zipper closely (or have the pack with you when you buy the lock) to ensure the right choice of lock is made.
