    Works. But check the packaging.

I bought two of these last month. Both are “working”. Brighter than the old fluorescent tubes that they replaced, and some power savings. Though I should have been more suspicious when the stack of tubes in the store was so picked over and all the boxes seemed shelf worn. First, I stupidly didn’t realize they were glass. I’m accustomed to LEDs in other form factors being plastic. So… one tipped over from vertical and cracked the glass. But I also assign some of the blame to the poor packaging that hides that its glass and doesn’t really protect the tube. The second tube I think was damaged before purchase. The plastic cap on one end is cracked and the pins on the end are pushed in slightly. With some fiddling I got them to make a connection and light up. It wasn’t clear to me, but the power is only on one side of the tube. I had to rewire the fixture more than I expected. But that’s more of a newbie issue.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Works perfectly and gives good even light

Like the title said, works perfectly. I have a 2 light LED fixture that uses direct wire type 'B' 48 inch tubes that do not require any ballast. One of the bulbs had quit working and I had a hard time trying to replace it. I finally found one at Canadian Tire, took a chance on it, and am quite happy. It produces a nice even light with absolutely no flicker. It is not quite as bright as the original, but this may be because it is a frosted tube and the original one was a clear tube with a strip of LED's running along the inside of it. Regardless, type 'B' tubes are hard to find, this one works just fine.

    Questions

    1 - 9 of 9 Questions

Q: I need to clarify if this is a single-ended bulb. Or is it double-ended (a better option apparently.) The diagram is very tiny and not too useful if you don't understand diagrams designed for electricians.

    • A: I read the instructions (text). It's got to be single ended. Thanks.

Q: Plug & Play isn’t working.. power is going through the unit.  Do I need to do the retrofit steps?

    • A: you have to be carefull with led tube's there are 3 kinds type A, type B and type C . A use existing T8 ballast , B is direct wired and C needs a transformer. also you need to know if your connectors are shunted or non shunted for type B. if they are shunted you will have to replace them.

Q: I just attempted to install these tubes by removing the existing ballast and retiring on end of the fixture for power. The bulbs are not working.  What do these bulbs require to work? Where can I find instructions?

    • A: My fixture was retrofitted to work without a ballast.  It a kit I had bought from a company in Florida.  When one of the bulbs quit I also tried to replace it with a bulb I purchased from Canadian Tire. It wouldn’t work. To the best of my knowledge the Canadian bulbs need a ballast.

Q: how do these work in the cold? IE garage setting where previously, I've used the specific outdoor tubes

    • A: I have found that in sub zero temps that LED fixturres need time to get to full brightness. It appears that they need to warm up a bit. Usually 4=5 minutes.

Q: Can someone from the company answer Maeve1's question of single - or double ended? It's easiest to bypass the ballast with double-ended for me and I don't understand how "plug-and-play" makes this irrelevant.

    1 Answer
    • A: This product is a hybrid bulb that provides the customer with two options: 1) Plug & Play with existing ballast that comes with your fixture. 2) Direct Wire Bypass the existing ballast and plug directly to AC wires.
