Great motor

Light, easy to assemble and powerful. As l get older l don't look forward to putting my heavy 9.9 motor on the back of my 14 ft aluminum boat. This electric motor works perfect allowing me to get out on the water. I keep my battery on trickle charge when not being used which gives me hours of fishing each time l'm out. Love the motor.

Q: Is this motor sufficient for a 17 ft canoe, with one person around 200 lbs?

  • A: I would say it is. I have an 8ft, inflatable pontoon amd it’s enough for me and 2 small children (about 390lbs.)to zip around a lake looking for fishing spots or to troll bottom-bouncing lures. no high speeds or anything but does the job.

Q: Could I hook a heavy duty battery to this motor. I will be using it on a canoe

  • A: Please define heavy duty battery? You should utilize a Deep cycle battery and I guarantee your canoe will fly across the lake.

Q: do i need a boat lisence for this motor in ontario?

  • A: Determining whether a Pleasure Craft License is required: Every pleasure craft must have a Pleasure Craft License, with the following exceptions: a pleasure craft using a motor with less than 10 horsepower (7.5 kW) I think the trolling motor is unlikely to be over 10 HP

Q: I habe just sold my 15 hp two stroke engine and do not want to go back to another gas motor. I have a 15 ft Princecraft aluminum fishing boat. Our lake is about 1km long. Will this motor be ok for putting around fishing in this boat.

  • A: It should be fine in your little lake . I turned the handle around and put on the bow of a 15 foot aluminum boat. I find it pulls my boat around nicely. Cause I like to sit and pull a jig around with a worm . Oh get yourself a solar panel . Neve have to plug it in.

Q: What type of battery is required to properly power this trolling motor?

  • A: Basically you need a deep cycle 12V battery, but all deep cycles are not born equal. It depends on how much you want to spend how long you're gonna be using it between charges and how far you'll need to carry it. Last summer I borrowed an old 24 Minnkota (without maximizer) before I bought the Endura max 40. The maximizer makes a major difference on running time. With the old 24, I completely discharged my big deep cycle (group 31, 130ah) over a weekend and I had to use the paddle to get back to shore. With my Max 40, I used 25% of a group 24 (smaller battery, 75ah) over a weekend using slow speed. If you have access to a charger over night, you can go with a small deep cycle (group 24). If you don't have access to a charger and can't recharge it on site, bigger is better (group 27 or 31). There are different kinds of deep cycle batteries. There are Hybrid and dedicated deep cycle. The hybrid has both cranking capacity (MCA rating on the battery) and deep cycle capacity. It is ok, but a dedicated deep cycle is better as it will have more capacity and a better lifespan for the same size. There are also different chemistry; regular lead/acid, AGM and gel. The regular lead acid is ok, the agm and gel are built better and will last longer. The gel is the best for an electric motor, but is harder to find in bigger batteries and may get quite expensive. AGM would be very good. The have a lower self discharge rate, handle a higher state of discharge (how far you discharge the battery) and have a more stable charge. So overall, it last longer. But it doesn't have more capacity. So you need to figure if it's worth it paying more. Last thing, if you go the lead acid way, most batteries will need a maintenance. And any battery type you choose, you'll need a REAL maintenance charger to keep the battery alive in winter. The Noco genius are very nice.

Q: Can the depth of the propeller be adjusted into the water? I want to use it on a canoe.

  • A: Yes, the motor can be adjusted up and down. I've used this on a couple of canoes without an issue and haven't even had to lower it as far as possible on either.
