Not very durable over time.

This is my third rotary tool and each failed miserably over a brief period of time. Most of my issues involve a stripped nosing that cannot release the bits. The shaft just keeps spinning and the lock button no longer grips the interior shaft. There have to be more durable units out there.

I bought one of these and was thrilled at the low price. I'm an occasional home handyman and this thing was ideal for small jobs. Unfortunately, after about a dozen or so uses over a few years (after the warranty had expired!) the button which locks the shaft so you can change the drill bit or cutting wheel started to slip so it was no longer possible to unscrew the currently installed accessory. This happened right in the middle of a project, so now I have to go out and buy another rotary tool. I think I'll go for the high price option this time.

I bought both this "Jobmate rotary tool kit" and the "Rotary Tool Accessory Set" LAST year because of low price.
I only open and use them today. I wanted to drill the screw of my car's remote keyfob as the screw head is all messed up. It should not be a big job. I started by installing a drill from the accessory set and use the slowest speed to drill the screw. I did not put too much pressure as I did not want to break the drill.
What happens? The tip of the drill bit was broken the moment it touched the screw #even though I used the slowest speed for the rotary tool and lightest pressure#. And then I wanted to change the drill bit so I can do it all over again. But I couldn't as the spindle lock cannot be locked at all so I could not loosen the collet nut.
As I cannot find the receipt and it was likely that I bought them over 1 year ago, I have to throw the whole rotary tool away. Money wasted.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Can Dremel parts fit on the jobmate? I imagine so but I want to make sure.

A: I've used some Dremel parts (cutting blades) in this Jobmate tool without problems, but others won't fit tightly enough and just spin around in the collet. I don't know why because the diameter of the axle is identical for both JobMate and Dremel tools. I measured them with a micrometer to make sure.

A: I still see it at a couple of local Canadian Tires (Mississauga, Brampton), but it's disappeared at other CTs in the GTA.

A: This product has been discontinued and is no longer available in Canadian Tire stores. You could try any of the Dremel rotary tools or the Mastercraft 20V Rotary Tool Station (054-8721) and use an attachment suitable for wood..

Q: Does this work with Dremel rotary attachments? Can this work with Dremel rotary attachments such as the 225-01 flex shaft attachment, the 220-01 WorkStation, or the 575 right angle attachment?

A: Most of the Dremel Rotary Tool accessories are compatible with the Jobmate tool. However best way to is to bring your JM rotary tool to the store with you when u purchase the flexible-shaft and u can make sure it fits.

Q: how do yu keep the round sanding papers from moving on the mandrel

A: Located on the top of the screw mandril there is a flat head screw. Turning this screw clockwise or counter clockwise will expand or compress the plastic bad allowing you to properly secure the sanding bands to the screw mandril.
