Side mounted on BMW i3 trunk

For those who are familiar, the BMW i3 was designed ground up to be "eco-friendly", using recycled materials, green manufacturing processes, light weight engineered design, high tech materials...etc. Unfortunately, this also meant even their premium "Harman Kardon system" was missing a subwoofer. As a result, the low end was very noticeably missing. To make things worse, there is no space underneath the front seats and trunk space is so limited that a traditional sub would eat up all useful space available. In comes the JBL BassPro SL (or even better, the SL2). The slim form factor meant it could nicely be side mounted in the trunk yet produce enough bass to make a difference. Wiring for the SL in the i3 was also VERY convenient since the i3's "headunit" sits under the rear seat. So speaker level inputs were easily accessible without needing to run long wires. Now the factory Harman Kardon system sounds much more well balanced. I'm sure the effect would even be better with the SL2, but for the refurbished price, I'm very happy with this product.

Yes, I recommend this product.

  • Minimalistic install - occupies very little space, but produces great bass!

Great for inside a car cabin.

Does exactly what it is supposed to. This is not a window-thumping bass. It is meant to round out and fill-in the lows of your favorite music in a compact form, typically installed under a seat. This is not suitable for your trunk. Not sure if it would be as impressive in a large truck either. But in a car... wow. I have a stock stereo in my 2019 Mazda 6 and this made a huge difference. It does add a very nice kick. Well worth it for what I want and I would buy it again for my next vehicle. If you want much more than I describe, go for a bulky trunk model. In short, 5 stars in this context.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Hi just wanted to know does the bass make the car buzz/shake or is it not powerful enough. Is I am going for that deep high bass that vibrates the passenger in the car? Thank you

  • A: Bass which shake everything in a vehicle is SOund pressure type setup with big subwoofers which a are very loud on certain frequencies and not exactly covering full bass spectrum.  This product is more for quality and to perform in broad frequency range of bass 120hz and below which is pretty decent.
