Q: Where can someone have this recharged? It had a plastic handle and that apparently caused some issue?

2 Answers
  • A: Please look in the yellow pages under “Fire” where they will be able to find companies that do servicing and recharging in your area. For this unit as described (it is 46-0057 a 2lb 1A5BC FX), if it is 6 years or younger (date stamp on bottom of bottle is when it was manufactured) the typical cost is around $20. Your customer will have to drop it off and return a few days later to pick it up. If the unit is older than 6 years, it will require a hydrostatic test, along with the servicing which will end up costing somewhere around $40 to $50. This testing, because of cost, is usually only done on 5lb & 10lb models. This unit a metal head/handle assembly, not plastic.

Q: i have a 2lb Garrison extinguisher model SRFE-2M. There is a stamp on the bottom with 18 above an S. can you tell me what year is was made?

1 Answer
  • A: This unit was manufactured in 2018 and has a 6 year limited warranty. The life of this extinguisher can be extended by looking in the Yellow pages under "FIRE" for companies that do servicing and recharging, that will enable you to get another 6 years of life out of it. That being said, the cost for this service is somewhere around $25.00 and it means that you would have to drop it off at the service company and return a few days later to pick it up. Another option is to purchase a new extinguisher and keep your current unit as is (so long as the yellow needle is in the operating position) and utilize it first, should you have a fire to combat, knowing you have a new unit as a backup. Please ensure you check your fire extinguishers on a monthly basis to ensure the yellow needle remains in the green section of the pressure gauge.

Q: Can anyone provide contact information for Garrison? I keep my 2lb Garrison fire extinguisher in the trunk of my car and I've noticed the plastic outlet nozzle has come off, is missing and I need a replacement nozzle.

1 Answer
  • A: Hello It may be possible to supply a replacement nozzle but I would require more details about the particular extinguisher as to when it was manufactured so as to provide the correct part. You may call 888-892-5394 to get a direct answer.

Q: What is the warranty?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello The Garrison Fire extinguishers carry a limited 6 year warranty. I have attached the warranty portion from the English version of the Owner Manual, for your review. LIMITED WARRANTY: GARRISON warrants its fire extinguishers to be free from ® defects in material and workmanship for a period of six (6) years from the date of manufacturing. (Year of manufacture is the 2 digit number located on the bottom of the cylinder, stamped into the metal – unit should be either serviced/replaced 6 years after this number.) During the warranty period, any such defects will be repaired or the defective extinguisher replaced (IF THE ORIGINAL SEAL IS INTACT (Do not remove red pull pin or cut blue safety seal prior to use – both are very easily removed/broken, when needed) AND/OR IF ONLY FACTORY REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE BEEN USED TO SERVICE THE EXTINGUISHER). This warranty does not cover defects resulting from modification, alteration, and misuse, exposure to corrosive conditions or improper installation or maintenance. ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF FITNESS FOR PURPOSE AND MERCHANTABILITY, ARE LIMITED TO THE TIME PERIOD AS STATED ABOVE. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE MANUFACTURER BE LIABLE FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. GARRISON neither assumes nor authorizes any representa- tive or other person to assume for it any obligation or liability other than as expressly set forth herein. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from province to province.

Q: Mine has a 10 above a 0 stamped on the bottom. What's the manufacturing date?

1 Answer
  • A: This 2lb Garrison fire extinguisher was manufactured in 2010. This unit typically has a 6 Year life, before it requires service. As you have now gone past 12 years, the service required for this, would cost almost double what a new one from Canadian Tire would cost. After 12 years, fire extinguishers need to be hydrostatically tested and this takes time and is expensive to do. This would only be practical on the 5 or 10lb extinguishers.

Q: What is the cost to recharge this model?

1 Answer
  • A: The cost on this extinguisher (46-0057, 2lb 1A5BC) to be serviced and recharged can vary for a couple of reasons, which are; 1. If the extinguisher is under 6 years old (a two digit number stamped on the bottom of the cylinder is the date of manufacture), the cost is approximately $20, plus it means dropping it off at a facility (look under “FIRE” in your local yellow pages for an approved company) and then picking it up a day or two later 2. If the extinguisher is over 6 years old, a secondary service is required (definitely at 12 years), which adds an additional $12 to $20 dollars to this service 3. Rates for servicing & recharging are up to the individual companies across the country (over 1,000 companies) I trust this answers your question.
