It's not super cheap, but knowing that I can buy replacement motors from the manufacturer was what sealed the deal on the decision to buy. Used it Thanksgiving weekend for the first time, and it was surprisingly effective in evening out the heat in the cabin. Would recommend.

Q: Does this fan work by heat, or would this fan work on a newer model pellet stove? The top of our pellet stove stays cool, but the ledge in front of the glass window in the door of it puts out quite a lot of heat.

A: The functionality and longevity of the Ecofan is very much based on temperature and placement. The Ecofan collects heat from the stove through the base of the fan itself, which means that the surface of the stove top must be within the operating range of the Ecofan, for it to function correctly. The back of the Ecofan should not be exposed to heat as this can cause overheating and damage the unit. We hope this helps!

If you have a freestanding gas stove, we would recommend our 806 BelAir model as it is designed for use on gas/pellet/contemporary stoves that have a lower surface temperature compared to wood stoves. Q: The fan is turning very well, and no noise; a huge improvement over the fan on the stove, but I cannot feel any airflow from the fan. I’ve even tried holding paper in front of the spinning fan. Is this normal?

A: The fan I have is the model 810, 8'' diameter. It is only a 2 blade fan. I didn't expect it to move much air, which is also why it is quiet. My need for it was mostly for a small space but have used it in a larger room like a winter cottage satisfactorily. There are other bigger fans with 4 blades for example.

Q: We have a wood gas insert that replaced our wood fireplace. The fan for the insert does not work anymore. When the insert is on high the front of the stove gets hot. I fthe ecofan was placed in front of the window would it work?

A: Hi dave! Thank you for your question. The Ecofan is designed for use on the top of free standing stoves. I'm sorry but we do not recommend placing an Ecofan in front of the window as it will damage the Ecofan.

If you have a freestanding gas or pellet stove, we recommend using our 806 BelAir model. The 806 model is designed for use on freestanding gas/pellet stoves which typically have a lower surface temperature compared to traditional wood stove surface temperatures.

Before providing the information on how the Ecofan works, I would like you to know that the 810 UltrAir model is manufactured for use on a freestanding, wood burning stove. If you have a freestanding gas stove, you will require the 806 BelAir Model. The Ecofans use thermoelectric technology to convert a temperature difference into electricity. The base of the Ecofan must contact a heat source of at least 65°C (150°F) and the fins of the Ecofan must remain cool by drawing in cooler air from behind your stove. Q: would it work on a old oil burning space heater

A: This one is tricky. If the space heater gets hot enough on top then the fan will work. If the top does not get hot then it will not work. If they can boil water on top of the heater it will work.
