Dyson DC46 Turbinehead Canister Vacuum

This vacuum looks nice, light weight and seems to work fairly well out of the box but quickly disappoints. This machine is designed to clog. The base of the vacuum head has a divider in the middle and the intake into the bin is exceptionally small. This means that if you attempt to vacuum something such as a Cheerio or small piece of paper, it will get stuck. It does a very poor job with pet hair as it clogs as well in the head and sticks to the floor attachment rather than being sucked up. Be prepared to clean out your floor attachment frequently so you can continue vacuuming with moderate suction. The carpet attachment does not fare much better. The carpet attachment is not motor driven so it relies on the suction for "power". The poor design causing the vacuum to restrict air flow will result in the bar not turning. Again, be prepared to stop frequently to manually clean the head of your vacuum. It is very difficult and time consuming to clean it completely as there is no easy access to the bend for the hose attachment. The power cord is ridiculously short. Even in very small rooms you will need to unplug and move outlets to completely vacuum a room; and many many times if you wish to vacuum even a modestly sized house. The only sane option is to purchase a separate extension cord. The bin does not empty on its own. It is a neat idea and may work for only small amounts of dust but if you have pet hair, the bin must be manually emptied with either your fingers or a long device. The collection bin is VERY small. Be prepared to wash the filters monthly. The response from customer service was disappointing at best. I was advised that I should have known by the length of the power cord that it was designed for small apartment use only. This product is NOT designed for houses. It is NOT appropriate for homes with children or pets. It is designed for tiny condo's....maybe. This product marginally outperforms the $50 vacuum I bought, but that one doesn't clog so overall it is probably the better product. This product is very overpriced and the performance is disappointing at best.

My parents own this vacuum and it does an incredible job of keeping their carpets clean. They have one dog and I often visit with my fiancee and our two dogs, so it's nice to have a vacuum that can get rid of all the dog hair when we're done!

I purchased the Dyson DC46 Turbine Head for cleaning an office with heavy mats that other vacuums could not get cleaned and am impressed on how much suction there is. This is a very impressive vacuum, light-weight, and easy to switch the accessories and emptying out of the bin. Very much recommend this product.

This is a nice vaccum and Canadian Tire's payment plan made it easy for me to own a quality machine. I've already caused my Best Friend to buy one, too!
