TRAILER RIM & TIRE “FAUX PAS”

I purchased a Boat & Trailer from a location 4.5 hours rom my home; the Unit was of 2002 vintage; although the Tires looked good, the rubber was still almost 24 years old; I decided to put NEW tires on the trailer.
We were just heading into Kamloops from the outskirts so we phoned Canadian Tire regarding the replacement rubber; the clerk, on the phone, confirmed they had the Tires and quoted us the price.
Upon arriving at the Store location and signing a Work Order and returning to our vehicle and trailer unit, a couple of Shop Workers quickly removed the trailer wheels; confusing to me, one of them asked if I wished to retain the Rims; of course I said yes.
They retreated to the Shop and to my surprise, returned with New Tires on NEW RIMS; I told them I just wanted NEW TIRES mounted on my existing rims; they stated, evidently it was more cost effective to swap-out the complete units, compared to re. & re. ing the Tires onto my rims.
We had a long trip ahead of us so I refused to contest the transaction; they installed the wheels and away we went, with me, still shaking my head.
I believe the Sales Clerk should have explained the Product to us over the phone, to save us the surprise.
I now have White-painted Rims on my Trailer, (which will Corrode, in time) instead of the original Galvanized Rims. (which will most likely stay non-Corroded for the next 100 years)
I’ve been meaning to contact Canadian Tire regarding this “faux pas”…..in a perfect world, I would like to have the New rubber on my Old rims.
We’ll see how it goes; for the most part, I have had good experiences with Canadian Tire ( I have shopped there “lots” over many years.
