CT carries a lower cost metal paint alternative to the main brands. Used for years, it is a good quality, goes on smooth, lasts long in the can.

Q: How is Armor Coat Rust Paint, in this case the semi-gloss white, protected from the sun's UV rays.  Will the colour fade in a short time or last?  I've heard an alkyd latex paint is a better way to go in a high sun exposure - residential steel door.

  • A: I have not used any semi-gloss rust paint in white. I have used gloss white with minimal fading. In my experience white is much more resistant to fading than brighter colours .

Q: Will it adhere to a new pre-primed steel residential (house) door that is yet to be installed in a high sun, south facing location.  I do not know what type of primer the manufacturer used.

2 Answers
  • A: The manufacturer will have used the proper primer for a steel door, so should be fine to paint it with the Armor Coat, it's just that primer isn't required to use it. Armor Coat is oil-based so it needs clean up with varsol or paint thinner, not water, that's the main thing and only needs a thin coat(s) as it will dry quickly.

Q: How do you clean brushes after using Armor Coat rust paint?

2 Answers
  • A: You use mineral spirits (paint thinner). Varsol is a common brand but Canadian Tire's paint thinner is the same thing in my opinion. Soap and water won't work because this is an oil paint.

Q: can this paint be sprayed ? I would like to spray the chasis of the car i am restoring instead of using a brush. I know with other paints I can thin them / filter and spray with a compressed gun. can this paint be thinned and then sprayed using a HVLP spray gun?

2 Answers
  • A: I'd try spraying it as a test first. A lot of reviews elsewhere claim it is very thin already. I would like to know how well it works for automotive applications (chassis and body panels). LMK.

Q: How long do I have to keep the item at 10 C after painting?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, Great question! While you can apply our Armor Coat paint at temperatures as low as 10C; Dry and recoat times are based on 21°C (70°F) and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. When curing at these temperatures, the paint dries to touch in 3-5 hours, dry to handle in 10 hours, and fully dry in 16 hours.
