For decades I have used 3M Filtrete filters in my house, with consistently good results. They are electrostatic so the dust doesn't fall out of the filter on to the floor when you take it out of the furnace housing.
The 1000 3M rated filter is a good middle of the road filter. Its away better than the spiders web cheap filters and far better for your furnace motor than the 2000 rated filters which can seriously compromise the health of you HVAC system especially in the summertime when the AC is in use.
I wish 3M used MERV numbers rather than their own mysterious numerical rating.
I also wish that Canadian Tire continued to stock the carbon impregnated filters that help a house smell fresh.

I stick to a 3 month replacement schedule and the filter does a good job of capturing dust and are sturdy. The 2 pack is a good value.
