How do I clean grease off my bike?

When cleaning excess grease and debris off your bicycle, the simplest method is to opt for a cleaning kit, which will often include all the tools and accessories needed for the job, like degreasers, lubricants, cleaners, rags, brushes and more. To clean off the grease, begin by applying degreaser to your bike’s drivetrain with a brush, and spreading it all along the chain. Next, rinse away the degreaser with water and dry off the chain with a rag. When applying fresh lubricant to your chain, add a single drop to each link, and finish off by wiping away any excess lubricant.

What parts of my bike require lubricant?

As bicycles are designed with many moving parts, adequate lubrication is essential for efficient, effective, and safe cycling. The most common areas on your bike that require lube are the three primary pivot points: the chain, the brakes, and the derailleurs.

·         Chain: Apply lubricant to the chain with a single drop to each link, while simultaneously pedaling the chain backwards by hand

·         Brakes: Apply lubricant to the pivot points where the brake parts and gears rub together together, including the quick-release mechanism, adjustment barrel, and brake lever

·        Derailleurs: Apply lubricant to the derailleur bodies and pulleys, including the rear, with the bike laying on its side
