Surprisingly Effective Dethatcher for Small to Med

I was pleasantly surprised by how well this machine performed. With three height settings, it can handle just about any level of dethatching you're looking for. It has plenty of power for a small to medium-sized lawn. A word of advice: take your time and let the machine do the work. Don't rush the job, and you'll get great results. If you go slow and steady, this dethatcher will really "eat" through thatch effectively. Overall, a solid tool for the price. Highly recommended for homeowners looking to bring new life to their lawn.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hard to get parts

Third year and third time using it and the plastic pivot for the safety bar has broken. Doesn't seem to be any way to get a part for it so I'll have to gerry-rig a way around it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not a quality product

Works well for two years, then in the third year, the motor dies 1/2 of the way through the lawn. Not a quality product. I guess you have to decide whether it's worth 75 dollars a year. And the grass bag is pretty useless. Its full after 5-6m (15-20 feet) of walking. I end up not using it, then raking what it pulled up into piles to bag it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: can i use a 13amp or 15amp extension cord for this dethatcher?

4 Answers
  • A: Hello Vanessa. The recommendations for this model would depend on the length of the extension cord. If your extension cord is 25 feet, we recommend using an 18 gauge cord. For a 50 foot cord, we recommend it be 16 gauge. For a 100 foot cord, we recommend it be 14 gauge. If 150 feet, we recommend it be 12 gauge. Thank you for contacting Yardworks! Darcy S.

Q: Replacement Tines I purchased the Yardworks Aerator/Dethatcher but after dethatching my lawn and several others I require replacement tines. These are the smaller stainless steel spings not the larger ones that seem to be stocked by all the stores. Where can I get them and what is the product code?

Anonymous18 years ago

  • A: You will need to order a whole new spindle that has the up-to-date tines (double prong) already on it. I just order one for mine. The new spindle is the price of about 4pk of the replacement tines, plus Tax and shipping. I should have it in 5-7 business days. Call 1-866-523-5218 and order Product number 3864-8. The operator will ask for your dethatcher product number, as to send you to the correct person. It is 60-3864. I'll keep the double spring replacement tines I bought yesterday as later replacements for my new spindle. :) I LOVE mine!!! Anonymous II

Q: What does this thing do?! Is it used to poke holes in the ground to aerate the lawn? Coring? Thanks

  • A: IT does not poke hole in the ground. IT removes the old dead grass that chokes the lawn.
