Q: Bought the 1/2 inch brass female hose coupling. Can’t figure out how I’m supposed to fit the black plastic part into the hose. There is no mention of it in the instructions.

A: You first unscrew the brass ring. You put that ring onto the hose with the threaded end facing the end of the hose. Then you put the black plastic ring onto the hose, barbed side facing the ring you had just put onto the hose. (This goes onto the hose, not inside it. If you are having a hard time fitting the black plastic thing onto the hose, it may be because you have a hose that is larger than 1/2". That is the the size hose this fitting is made for.) Finally, screw the remaining brass part onto the first brass ring as tight as possible. Someone complained about the thing leaking. That is likely because the fitting wasn't screwed together tightly enough, or there was no rubber washer when this fitting was connected to the faucet. This thing is a great alternative to the fittings that use those hose clamps.
