Steel is extremely brittle

Really sharp out of the package but I was using it to cut a pop can sized tree and the head of the axe snapped off the handle where they meet in a weak point and went flying past my head on my third tree cutting with it. Do not remember especially for heavy use

Too small for anything

Wanted to use this during camping to turn bigger logs into kindling. Tried to hammer it in with another log as some other reviewers mentioned but was only able to get it a few centimeters into the wood and no splitting. All it was able to do was shave off small bits for tinder. Should have gotten a bigger hatchet or axe in the first place.

Durable pack axe

This axe comes with me year round on the snowmobile or the bike. Lightweight, it takes no room to put in the bottom of any bag. I had this for at least 5 years and the sheath is starting to wear thru.

Useless - Save your money!

I bought this last summer for hiking and camping, in the hopes I would be able to use to split kindling and small pieces of wood for fires. I was extremely disappointed at how poor the construction was. First off, within the first 15mins of use, it lost it's sharpness and the edge became jagged. 2nd off, I knew it was going to be small and light, but that in addition to the dullness of the blade, it makes it impossible to use. You literally have to use another piece of wood to hammer the hatchet in if you want to cut through anything bigger than tiny kindling. Not to mention how poorly it absorbs any vibration. It is honestly quite painful to use, both by the amount of hacking and hammering you have to do but also the vibration it send through your hand. I honestly think that having a proper "heavier" and sharper hatchet would be worth the extra weight rather than this. I used it again over the weekend, having forgotten how bad it was, but I was quickly reminded. I'll be looking a buying a better hatchet and I'll be happy carrying around the extra weight knowing I won't be hacking away at tiny kindling for hours just to build a fire. I wish I still had my receipt because I would bring it back in a heartbeat! Do yourself a favour, and get something a bit better you'll be happy.
