Same product?

Used to be a propane/butane canister, but it now says only “isobutane” on it, which is a very different gas. Not clear if it’s the same product/mix - the photos show the old and the new ones.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: What is the distribution of propane and isobutane in this canister? Is it 100% isobutane or is there propane in it as well? Is there a difference between the mix of isobutane and propane vs isobutane?

2 Answers
  • A: According to Canadian Tire answer above, there's no isobutane at all in their isobutane fuel

Q: Description says it can be used below zero temperatures but it says right on the can that below 0C it will not sustain the burner. Huh?

  • A: I tried out a new cylinder with my Primus burner (gas mix is the same as that stated on the old Primus cylinder which I never tried cold). At -18 it produced only a flickering orange flame. At -11, blue flame but weak, would take a long time to heat anything. At -4 it seemed to work almost normally. I'll use it 3 seasons but probably get a liquid fuel stove for winter.

  • A: Based on the Jetboil canisters shown here: https://www.altitude-sports.com/products/jetboil-jetpower-fuel-100-g-llll-jtb-jf100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwuuKXBhCRARIsAC-gM0iYgfnhE2On2qri6q_3XnmpdVhOhUg1GbjIt6FrJwBynhcPswHs9bIaAsPVEALw_wcB They look "identical"

Q: What is the ratio of fuel in the canister? In your answer to this question above you indicate the canister contains propane and butane. But the canister is advertised as isobutane. Please clarify. Many thanks.

1 Answer
  • A: The gas canister model 0762010 is advertised as iso-Butane because it contains a fuel mixture consisting of Propane 25%, iso-Butane 72% and N-Butane 3%. Please refer to our SDS listed on the Canadian Tire website: https://webviewer.wercsmart.com/canadiantire_sds/client/search SDS for canister model 0762010 and 0762858 can be found at https://webviewer.wercsmart.com/canadiantire_sds/client/GetDocument?id=ddf9734a-f16a-4e54-9378-d273a982337a&pid=91019789 Please let me know if you more questions.

Q: How many hours of cooking time do you get with the 8 oz or 16 oz. I'm doing a bike trip for a month using one of the small single burner tripod Woods backpacking stoves. Expect to have it going 30 - 45 mins a day. Any feedback on hours of use.

1 Answer
  • A: It largely depends on the burner the customer is using.  Normally the burners for the screw type fuel cartridges have 6,000 - 9,000 BTU (127 - 191g per hour), so 8oz (227g) would last about 70 - 110 minutes and 16oz (450g) about 140 - 210 minutes.  Please advise the customer to check their burner's firepower.
