A: Our phone is used on tone mode. Pulse is used for rotary (dial) phones!

Q: can this be plugged as RJ 45 ?

A: No, connecting directly to an RJ-45 on your router is for a VoIP (SIP) phones only, this is an Analog phone for use with regular PSTN lines (POTS LInes). If you want to use this phone via your internet (or any regular Analog home phone for that matter), you need to subscribe to a service (like OOMA, Magic jack, etc), and this service will provide you with an Analog Terminal Adapter (ATA) to connect with. This ATA will allow you to connect this phones RJ-11 plug to the back of the ATA, and the ATA will then connect to your Internet via either an RJ-45, or wirelessly via your Router. But you pay for this landline service, either to OOMA, or to your local Telco (Rogers, Bell, Shaw, Telus) these later companies provide you with an Internet Router with a built in ATA, check the back, you will usually find 2 RJ-11 ports, but again, you have to pay them to activate these ports by subscribing to their Landline service. If you are on the market to buy a SIP phone for RJ-45, speak with your business SIP line provider, as they usually only support a select number of brand/model SIP phones with their service, and buying a random SIP phone will only lead to compatibility difficulties.
