Amazing Charcoal BBQ - Built like a tank!

This is built like a tank! I've owned this grill for a few years now and I'm predicting it is going to last at least 10 with its construction. Best charcoal BBQ I've owned by far and I've gone though at least 5 different ones with their demise usually being burnout through one of the walls. This one has a dual bin and the inner bin still looks like new after more than 50 BBQs. The temperature control is just perfect, I keep one of the two deflector plates on there permanently to provide offset cooking and also a refuge or for slower cooking things like fish or shrimp. The seals on this BBQ are phenomenal compared to whatever else I've owned in the past. One load of charcoal can be reused for more than 1 BBQ, so your charcoal will go much further. My only knock on this thing are the clips on the ash bin can come loose every once and a while, it doesn't fall off, but rather can allow more air in than you would like, but when it happens it is obvious and easy to correct. Cleaning out the ash bin is a breeze compared to other BBQs. The other minor knock might be the top rack not being permanently mounted to the grill, and since it doesn't fold back and away like a gas grill, cooking underneath it can be tricky, but I just don't bother using it unless I'm doing a big cookout. With the offset grilling option, I use half of the grill as my refuge instead of the top rack. Plenty of cooking surface without the rack for cooking for up to 6-8 people. Highly recommend!!

Yes, I recommend this product.

What a great BBQ - it holds in heat well. I've only used it a couple of times so far, but is been great! Well worth the money.

Good deal (For the Price)

I bought this kamado because my Char-Griller Akorn has rusted out after 10years of use. The Akorn was great except for the problem with water getting in and running down to the ash tray. The water then binds with the ashes and holds this wet mixture against the steel walls which causes rust, I think the solution will be to make sure to clean the ashes out regularly, use a charcoal basket, and keep the water out with a good cover. The replacement Akorn was over twice the price - so this buy was a no-brainer. I have not actually used this BBQ yet - but the build went well and was very easy. Parts were well labelled and easy to identify I would still allocate 1.5hrs to put it together. As mentioned above, the area at the bottom of the BBQ where the ash pan clips on is made out of thin steel and probably will rust out first. I expect this BBQ to last about 10 years which is what one would expect for something at this price point. I am most excited about the iron castings for indirect cooking and the build quality is overall perhaps a little better than the Char-Griller. I still expect to be in the market for a new BBQ in 10 years but this is par for the course. 4 Stars out of 5 due to the thin steel at the bottom of the fire box - otherwise a great deal for the price.

Q: could a rotisserie be used with this ?

2 Answers
  • A: Simple answer No, there are no holes or mounts for a rotisserie. I'm sure some do-it-yourselfers could figure out a way to make something up.

Q: Are the side tables foldable?

  • A: No,  and it’s not cast metal like the name would imply it’s thin layers of metal with insulation… So far it’s a fine  barbecue and I have no complaints but it’s not cast like I thought it was when I ordered it from the website

Q: Could you use wood instead of charcoal for fuel? Thanks

  • A: No. Using wood in a charcoal BBQ is nonsensical.
