I really like how it covers. Now one coat is a bit of a stretch but, I would have had to do about 10 coats the get what I did with three.

Q: Is this polyurethane or polyurethane-based? When researching this product, in the USA, it seems to be called Varathane Triple Thick Polyurethane, but here in Canada, it is just called, Triple Thick "One Coat Clear Finish". Why the difference in naming?

A: Hi Katrina, There is nothing wrong with applying our Varathane Triple Thick Clear Finish on vertical surfaces. However, we recommend thinner coats to avoid sagging.

Q: Can it be applied on fresh stained stairs

A: Triple Thick is only meant to be applied to furniture and small projects. It is not meant to go on floors as it is not strong enough for that.

Q: Can this be used over painted wood as well? Looking for a glossy top coat to apply to a black painted dresser to stop it from scratching so easily.

A: Varathane Triple thick is intended as a top coat for bare, or stained wood. It is not our first choice for a paint finish. However, you could consider the Painter's Touch 2X clear as a good alternative for painted wood.
