Horrible deck design, good motor.

What a disappointment. I’ve been using this more for three years now and I regret the day I bought it every time I use it. The engine itself runs great, but the body design is flawed. The teeth in the front end up pushing the grass down and each side of the deck ends up with different heights of cut grass. Just poorly cut grass forcing me to double over every single swath. I’ve had the blade sharpened many times, but it makes no difference. Even though this mower technically runs fine I’m finally fed up with it and I’m moving to something else

Please feel free to reach out to our Canadian Consumer Resource Centre at 1-800-668-1238 or techcanada@mtdproducts.com for some diagnostic support. Some best practice tips for an even cut with any mower; check the blade level on a flat surface, reduce ground speed when mowing, mow often taking no more than one third of the grass blade off at a time and change mowing pattern regularly to prevent the grass from getting used to being cut in the same direction, which can result in an uneven cut.

I really like this mower, I had the exact same one for 9 years only having to do maintenance and replace the blades!
Late this fall it started to show it's age and rather than giving it a major overhaul we decided to buy a new one and keep the old one for spare parts!

A very reliable machine!

This mower has been great so far! It’s lighter than my old mower and is also more powerful, not struggling to get through taller grass.
The position of the oil reservoir is easy to access, and the mower starts on the first pull.
The mower has a pouch of 10W 30 oil included; the owner’s manual reads to change the oil after the first 5 hours of use (after this you can change the oil then check it as you normally would) so it would be a good idea to buy an extra container of 10W 30 when you first buy this mower.
Also, this mower has a fuel valve on the side, so make sure you switch it to open when using.
All in all, very happy with this machine!

Super mower

Bought the display model so zero assembly but the gas cap was somehow missing from the bag containing oil and a few other attachments. The kind folks at the courtesy desk found a replacement so I have no complaints. The mower cuts great and starts first pull every time. Btw, buying a mower with a Honda motor was priority one for me.

Q: What are the three cutting heights? Also please confirm the mower is from MTD. Most mowers have 4 - 6+ possible cutting heights. Spec sheet indicates only 3 possible heights and therefore could be limited in use.

A: It has 6 cutting heights, the height is easy to adjust. Mowers of several brands seem to be sharing the same wheel adjusting mechanism

A: Thank you for your question. This model 060-1634-2 is a Push mower and is not self propelled. The speed is determined by the pace at which you walk.

A: Yes, I beleive it uses the http://engines.honda.com/models/model-detail/gcv160 TB changes the cover but it appears to be the only 160cc OHV engine that Honda makes.

Q: How hard/heavy is this mower to push? One review mentioned it's hard to push through thick grass because of the rake attachment... can that be removed easily? Or is this mower pretty easy to push in spite of that anyway?

A: The rake attachment makes the front opening actually larger - the deck behind the rake is shorter. The down side is that it causes the air and debris to be blown forward from the mower, which makes mulching fall leaves in to a backyard game - see my review for details. I do not think removing it is a good idea .. because of the lower deck height in the front makes it a safety issue.

A: Thank you for your question. For safety the manufacturer recommends using only the original equipment 67 litre (approx 2 bushel) grass catcher assembly included with the mower.

A: If you have old gas in mower after winter storage get rid of it. You must also use premium gas for this machine. Always use a gas preservative when putting mower away for winter. Hope this helps.
