Locking failure with less than 10 hours of use!!

NO!! Do not buy this carrier!! We purchased this carrier in the summer of 2023 to take our Kayak on Vacation. Since we purchached it, in total, it was used less than 10 hours to transort a kayak. Two weeks ago, two hours from home we discovered our kayak had shifted substantially and we realized the front carrier was no longer locking. We reinforced the carrier with additonal strapping to get to our destination, but on dismantalling the carrier we were shocked to discover the locking mechanism is actually made of plastic and had totally stripped. Like you might expect a 1/4" plastic lock to do, given that it was holding a kayak on a roof at highway speeds!! It's a wonder we never lost the boat into our trailer we were towing, to no fault of ours!! We have just submitted a warranty claim to Thule.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Installed so quickly and easily. I like how it comes with 3x different bolt sizes so your not left with excessively long bolts that can damage your roof. The racks fold down easily and lock in with ease - great feature and well worth the extra $

All the little details makes it the best of kayak rack by far. The hook at the top and the space to hide the straps to prevent hitting the car are awesome. Most importantly, the rubber protector for the metal piece of the strap will save scratches on your car!

A: It’ll work great for the square cross bars, I have the Aeroblade cross bars (which are sort of oval shaped) and had to buy an adapter to make these work for me. But they will work great on the square ones with the parts included with them!

A: The Thule kayak racks are designed to fit on any cross bar with an oval or rectangular cross section. It would likely not mount well on a cross bar that is "round". I have mounted these on Toyota factory cross bars as well as the Thule brand cross bars

A: Bonjour, Oui si vous avez vos barres transversales adaptées à votre voiture. Vous pouvez toujours vérifier le poids maximum de vos barres transversales et de vos kayaks en incluant ces supports à kayak. Je les utilise sur ma Tiguan 2021 et sur ma Jetta 2014 et ça fait très bien.
