Must have

This is a must have for the winters that we experience in Manitoba. I have had no issues starting my vehicles with this installed. Purchased a new vehicle this year so it is getting one installed as well.

Works great

Works great. Car was struggling to start prior to installing this. I only plug it in during very cold temperatures (-20). Even when not plugged in, it does a good job of insulating the battery.

Q: Got this and got it installed by Canadian Tire 20 days ago. The cable looks indoor and it is now cracking with the copper visible. What should I do? Definitely don’t want to pay the install labour charges again.

  • A: Like the primary purpose of this product is to survive the cold whether, which is pretty disappointing.

Q: My vehicle will be parked outside for 4 months in temps ranging from -20–40 C without being started. Will this blanket keep my battery warm enough to hold a charge or if not, what  do you suggest?

  • A: Not the intended use of a battery blanket. If you can remove the battery to a warm location that may work but look into trickle chargers which is probably the better bet.

Q: Whats the difference between 50w and 80w? What does the 50 and 80 mean?

3 Answers
  • A: The difference is 30Watts. This is 30Watts more in consumption and in heat provided. Wattage is the amount of energy consumed over a given time period. If you live in an area where the temp. drops very low to the -35 to -40C you should use the 80Watt unit. A powerful warm battery will crank over a cold motor. A warm motor with a near dead battery may not even crank over.

Q: for a 2017 Jeep Compass should I use the 50w or 80w Most times car sits for days in -25 before starting

  • A: 50 watt for two hours before starting should be sufficient if the battery is in good shape and not too old. Be sure to use a timer to save electrical costs and warm the battery well for starting

  • A: (Traduction par Google...) Bonjour.

Q: Can i leave the battery blanket plugged in while the car is in idle for 15mins? I'm in Alberta and usual temperature during winter time drops from around -20°C to -40°C. Should i leave it plugged in or just unplug during idle & replug once idle is over?

  • A: Yes you can leave plugged in. I am in Winnipeg believe me I know about the cold weather.

Q: Is it safe to run this on a safe heavy duty type extension cord?

1 Answer
  • A: The blanket draws less than 0.5A. A 16-gauge (or heavier) extension cord would be suitable for up to 150 feet. Just make sure its rated for outdoor use.

Q: how long can you leave 50w thermos zerostart battery warmer plugged in

1 Answer
  • A: The battery warmer is low wattage and is designed to be plugged in for extended periods of time to keep the battery in a warm, ready state. It can be left plugged in for several days continuously. In most cases, we recommend that a battery warmer be plugged in for at least 8 hours to achieve maximum benefit. If the vehicle has been sitting at -25, it may take even longer to warm the battery, therefore it is recommended that you plug in the battery warmer the night before the vehicle is needed (at a minimum). You should not plug in the warmer in temperatures above 5C as this could unduly overheat your battery.
