Stratus Richter Adult Bike, 21-Speed, 24-in Wheel, Adult/Youth Bike, Green

I wanted to buy the bike for my kid, and a pretty good sale kicked in (41% off), so I went to try it out. I must say, I was quite disappointed after going to 3 stores and taking a close look at 6 of these bikes that were assembled and available on the floor. Every single one of them had a problem, all 6 of them! One of them had front rim bent out of shape so bad, I did not even have to spin it - the abnormal curvature was visible to the naked eye. Three of them had front and/or rear rim slightly bent out of shape, and that was noticeable when I spin the wheel (it was not centered, hitting brake pad on/off). These issues ARE NOT related to the install position of the wheel relative to the frame/fork; these are related to bent aluminum rim, and this problem is extremely hard to fix (sometimes impossible). Also, one of the front rims was making sounds as though it's missing some balls in the bearing. Five out of six had a problem with the rear shifter. The shifting was sticky, clunky, and it was skipping some gears and staying on the same sprocket when it should've moved up/down. Even the shifting mechanism on the steering handle seems to be cheaply built and not very user friendly. Furthermore, one of the handles was literally bent on the left side, right next to the handle. If 1 of 6 of these bikes had issues, I would not be too worried. But all 6 of them - that's a concern. I grabbed a couple of bikes on the floor, next to these ones and tested them - all worked flawlessly, which makes me believe that there are quality control issues on these bikes (that'd explain a really good sale price, I suppose). Honestly, I cannot tell whether these bikes come defective or whether whoever assembles the bikes is doing a poor job, but your kid's heart set on this bike - you better do some extensive testing before you regret it. I tried talking to one of the guys in the department, and he was like "whatever". He said I have 30 days to bring it to adjustment. My question "Why would I buy a product that I know is defective, just so I can come here again and ask you to fix it?" went unanswered. That's another problem - these bikes have 30 days warranty - that's it. No returns either. They justify it by "bikes get abused". Again, the bikes I looked at are all defective and they haven't even been used (let alone abused). There's only few details on these bikes that are worth compliments, so to be fair I'll state them: 1 - Aluminum frame. Makes it much lighter than the next bike. Aluminum frame warranty is 5 yrs, which is about 3x better than steel frame warranty. 2 - The height of the handle bar can be adjusted if needed (you'll have to purchase appropriate adapter), unlike the other bikes in this class. 3 - It comes with a conveniently placed beverage holder mount screws (must purchase the mount separately). 4 - Well positioned steel cables for gear control and brakes. I ended up purchasing a different bike (#071-1905-2), which when I tested it, showed NONE of the issues I've seen with this bike. I'll review the one I bought once my boy has been using it for a few months.

Acheté pour mon petit fils de 8 ans. Nous avons fait couper le poteau de selle pour descendre le siège au maximum. Il adore son vélo, aucun difficulté à conduire, changer les vitesses. Vélo léger, se manoeuvre très bien.
