Q: I don’t believe these are squirrel proof Why don’t you allow pics. I would send you the one I have with a squirrel on my feeder eating the seed inside.

A: I bought one of these and still use it. It IS squirrel proof in terms of not enabling the squirrel to sit on the feeder perches to get at the seed, because the weight of the squirrel pulls the perch down which shuts the window to the seed. However, squirrels are very smart and will spend a long time trying to figure out another way to get at the seed so you have to try to outsmart them. In my case, I had the feeder hanging from a pole with a hook and the squirrel realized it could hang upside down from the hook and reach one of the windows without having to sit on a perch. Success for the squirrel. But in terms of the perches, they do make the feeder squirrel proof if that is the only way the squirrel has to get at the seed. In my case, the squirrel figured out a different way!

A: Hi Nancy. The Squirrel X4 Bird Feeder is designed to be effective against squirrels. However, the integrated metal perches are spring-loaded to close all ports with the weight of squirrels or large birds. Bully birds tend to not like safflower seed, so you could trying using that seed as a deterrent as well.
