Great for dump runs, or taking extra gear on longer trips

Assembly was not complicated, and the bolt and washer connection to the hitch receiver is quieter than a standard locking trailer hitch pin. On our Toyota RAV4, the rack folds up when empty with adequate clearance between it and the rear hatch.
For safety, I will use brake/turn/stop lights on the cargo basket at all times, both when hauling stuff and when folded up. Curt and other companies sell lights with a standard 4-pin electrical connection. The basket partially obscures the rear licence plate, so on a long trip I might get another licence bracket and move the plate off the SUV and onto the rack if that is legal.
Its steel construction means that the basket weighs nearly 70 pounds. I would have preferred lighter aluminium construction, but couldn't find one that folds up when not in use.
The 500-pound limit seems high. I will limit the weight of loads I carry to around 200 pounds, plus of course the weight of the basket.

Excellent storage travel option.

Travelled with more than 1000km already and it has worked great. Held 2 large tubs that we tied together and to the rack with bungee cords and straps. Was easy to put together the rack and put it up when.

Great cargo rack! Well made and the tilt upnwhen not in use was the feature looking for. You have the option for pin but the preferred is the stabilizer securing bolt. Would recommend and buy again!

A: I use a receiver extention to get past the spare tire on my Jeep Liberty. This solution may work for the Wrangler as well.

A: No - this rack slides into the hitch receiver. You could purchase a bar extension, or double receiver adapter, but the limiting factors will be : - mechanical interference with your trailer - Max tongue weight rating of your vehicle/hitch reciever - extra leverage exerted on the vehicle by adding an extension bar.

A: Someone else cites 500 lbs, however the REAL limit is your tow vehicle's rated tongue weight. See: www.backcountryracks.com/sportrack-folding-hitch-cargo-basket.html Note that the rack itself weighs almost 70 lbs. This means that for a vehicle rated to have a 350 lbs tonge weight, you can only carry 180 lbs. These ratings are more associated with trailering, but I don't know where to find a max non-trailered load rating on the hitch receiver. Essentially, , the load is held by a heavy welded bar, held on to your vehicle's frame by 4 steel bolts.

Q: Can this be altered to fit the 11/4" reciever?

A: You could try to use a 1-1/4″ Class I/II receiver adapter. This has a couple consequences: - more play and basket flop - the 1-1/4" receivers aren't rated to carry as much load, and may not be as string. - The receiver adapter moves the basket out another foot or so, adding leverage agaisnt the weaker 1-1/4" draw bar -Positive impact: you might actually be able to fold the rack because of the extension out from the bumper. Possible, but I wouldn't personally recommend it. The basket already weighs almost 70 lbs on its own.

Q: What is the length of the 2” hitch bar? How far does it make the rack extend away from the vehicle? I own a Jeep which has the spare on the tailgate, so I want to clear the spare tire...Thank-you

A: Thanks for checking with SportRack Thule. Regretfully, this would not clear the spare tire - the stinger to the Vista Folding Basket hitch would be too short - only designed for vehicles without spare tires off back end. Thanks for your understanding.

Q: Would this carrier be suitable to transport a dirt bike with a total weight of 260lbs? I'm concerned about the stability even though it is within the 500lb weight capacity. Our hitch as a tongue weight to 750lbs.
