I’m a solo kayaker/traveller so it was important to find something I could easily use to load my 12’ kayak onto. I like that these fold down as I slide my kayak onto the rack from the back of my Honda CR-V and it sits upside down. I use ratchet straps that were bought separately to secure it and it works so so well. I’ve used this rack for three summers now going on my fourth and after using a friends J rack once that doesn’t fold, I much prefer this one.

Easy to use and store.

This rack is easy to install and is very sturdy. Four stars only because there is no locking mechanism to prevent them from being stolen off my roof rack, I have to take them off completely whenever not in use BUT the folding feature is great by making them very compact.

Good kayak rack, that comes with everything you need to secure. I ended up buying two of them for my kayaks (Pelican Boost 100 and Pelican Magna 100). They did not however fit on my roof rack with the bolts that came in the kit so I had to purchase longer carriage bolts. My roof rack was a OEM from Toyota. Relatively easy to take on and off and hold the kayaks securely

Great adjustable mounts! A little tricky to tighten properly, but once tight they hold well and do the job! You may need to get creative on loading/unloading your boat if you have a taller vehicle, but bring a ladder and you should have no issue!

J too shallow and rubber sleeve does not hold

It's easy to set up and folds alright but the end of the J is shallow and rubber sleeve does not hold my kayak in place. As a result the side of my kayak would always slip beyond the rubber sleeve and rest on the metal part after a short drive despite how well I placed the kayak on the rubber sleeve and how tight I pulled the strap. The instructions said to loop the strap around the bottom of the J but my suggestion would be to loop it around the crossbar at the bottom.

A: I’m not 100% sure, I used mine on a 2022 RAV 4 built-in. It has different parts to accommodate at least 2 different styles of sport racks, so you should be safe.

Q: Are the tie downs that go around the kayak enough to secure it or you tou have to run the tie downs over the hood and rear as well?

A: I (personally) tie down to the front and back too. Picked up some hood/trunk tie-downs at the same time of this purchase from Canadian Tire. My dual kayak is 14ft so I wanted to secure it properly.

A: If I understand your question correctly, emphatically no. Both j brackets are needed to secure one kayak effectively and safely. Two kayaks require purchasing two boxes.
