I've had this carrier for 8 years now. It has been great. Fits bikes of all sizes. Easy to load and unload. I supplements the locks with a long cable and padlock for additional security. I've been very happy with this carrier!

Great carrier for 4 bikes or less!

I have been using this for over a year, used it several dozens of times, short trips and many hours trips. Overall I am very happy with the unit and would recommend for carrying 4 bikes.
Price - I got it on sale so if you can wait then do it. Price was fair compared to other "big name" carriers. I believe this one is made by one of the "big name" carriers too without the big price.
Assembly - it wasn't that difficult but you need basic tools, wrenches or sockets. The unit is very heavy and connecting and removing might be a challenge if you are not strong and coordinated. It connects to the trailer hitch with a locking mechanism.
Function - this handles 4 bikes easily and it is very sturdy and heavy. Bikes with low center bars or step through might not work with this carrier as the arms might not go that low. With 4 bikes you have to wiggle to fit them but it is doable, you will figure out the system to make it work. Bikes won't get damaged in transport as this is a top load but be careful with the first bike closest to your trunk - if you don't hold it when releasing it will hit and damage your trunk.
You want to make extra keys for the locking mechanism but it is very sturdy mechanism and works easily.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to transport 4 bikes which aren't step through.

Great design, but locking mechanisms are cheap and sticky; one of the lock cylinders fell out on the third use. Returned for refund.

I hate writing reviews and I detest having to sign up to do so..but I went through the hassle because this rack is absolutely junk…I bought this for 2 adult bikes and a junior and a child bike…mounted on our 5th wheel…had to start off by putting a stablizer on rack to receiver…after approximately 2k of driving the rack was bent in 2 areas… which forced me to carry the bikes in the back of my truck and in the trailer… I cannot emphasize how much this thing is a piece of garbage especially for the price… I would’ve gladly paid more for a product that actually did what it was supposed to… You have been warned!

A: I adapted my tent trailer and put it on the back but it makes my trailer much more back heavy and now sways a lot. I don't put more than 2 bikes on the bike rack when it's back there of it's unsafe to drive, although my trailer is lighter than most.

Q: Can this be used “in half”? That is, can it be used with one section removed, and then the other half be added later when my kids have big enough bikes? Right now I’d have two unused spots, but don’t want to just buy a two-bike rack and then outgrow it.

A: There is a stem to which all 4 bike wheel support bars are attached. Even if one removed “half” of those support bars, the stem must be in place to support the remaining 2 bars (Google the instruction manual for details). So, you can’t divide this unit in half as cleanly as you may think. The unused bike tire slots do fold up, clamshell-like, when not in use. That provides a more compact look, but you are, of course, still hauling around the entire weight of the unit. You may want to call SportRack customer service (800-238-2388) to see if they recommend this.

A: If I recall correctly, the thread is on the left side and you start the bolt on the left and put the lock on the right side, when facing the car from the rear.

A: Ça dépend de la grosseur de ton "hitch". Le support demande un "hitch" de 2". Ceci dit sur mon ancien véhicule j'avais un hitch de 1 14". Avec un adaptateur ça faisait le travail sauf que le poids était déporté vers l'arrière ce qui mettait plus de poids sur la suspension arrière. Selon ce que j'en sais le poids que vous pouvez exercer vers le bas (tongue weight) est de 500lbs donc faites vos calculs. Poids du support plus poids des vélos.

A: Hi Gary, As long as you have a 2" hitch receiver, it is compatible. Please keep in mind that your hitch receiver needs to have 1.5" of space from the face of hitch to the pin hole in the hitch.
