Shocking, But I Like This Product

I needed a device that could tell me whether wires were "live" or not. I live in an old house where the wiring has been updated a few times. The basement has many wires that seem to be connected but judging by their age, they probably aren't. After cutting into a live wire, I decided it was time to be more careful. This device does the trick - it allows me to check whether all these wires are carrying electricity or not. It works very well, and has made the job of cleaning up the old wires much safer. The only thing I didn't like was that it used a "button" battery instead of a double or triple A. My experience in the past is that these types of batteries leak more often. To be fair, this has not happened with this device.

Great tool, unecessarily complicated battery

Pros: - Works great! - Battery not required for outlet analyzer end Cons: - Battery is in the back of the packaging instead of already being installed - I hope you have a universal screwdriver because you're going to need it to open the battery slot - Pliers are required to remove battery - No indication for which direction the battery should be placed - You must hold down the button for the voltage tester end to work (I had to consult the internet to figure this out)

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Have you tried this to see where in the line of Xmas lights, the bad one is?

Q: Where is the battery that comes with it stored. I expected it to be in the battery compartment but no battery?

  • A: If you noticed the battery before tossing out the packaging, congratulations! You are an Eagle-Eyed Wizard to be sure! The paper slip hidden inside the card says it doesn't come with a battery. The company doesn't provide instructions because they want to be green, they say. All that plastic in the trash with perfectly fine LR44 batteries, everywhere. I almost returned it to the store but then found a comment about this under a video on the internet and I hadn't thrown the battery into the garbage, miraculously, yet. Many people had to go back to the store to buy a battery. Extra driving, which again, isn't saving the environment. Maybe adding a sticker on the front saying the battery's on the back way at the bottom might be a swell idea.

Q: should it be 50-1000V, rather than 5-1000V?

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, this item has a lower voltage rating of 50 VAC, not 5 VAC. Sorry about the confusion.
