This rod / reel combo appeared to be a reasonable price and good quality for my son (8 years old). When we brought the rod back to our campsite, the first thing I found is the line on the reel was very weak. I could break it with my hands and no effort. I changed the line before heading out to go fishing. Within about 20 mins, my son had a snag. He lifted up on rod to try to clear the snag and the rod snapped. The store accepted the return without any issues.

good light duty kit .

Im 70 yrs old , and have had lots of rod and reels . Now folks remember you are buying a very light entry level kit . I tried mine yesterday and it seems to be working just fine .smooth reeling good action and no line tangle . I got this for kayak fishing as it is very light and compact . for kids first kit I think a stronger kit would be in order . hope this helps .
