good and bad

Really like the look and feel of it. after reading many + on disc brakes i was expecting this to work as it should. but i feel the braking power is less on this bike, not sure if its an assembly issue or this is what is expected on disc brake. i dont get a full stop as I would get on my other bike with normal brake system. I may take it back to store for a checkup. anyone experienced the same?

Good but not great bike

Bike is good for cruising in the city and surrounding trails but not so much for off road riding. Original kickstand in bad position. When backing bike up pedal gets blocked by kickstand. Poorly assembled at the store. Seat and handlebars were loose enough to move around. Had to customize it to suit me. The handle bars are uncomfortable on longer rides and the seat is very uncomfortable even on shorter rides. Pedals too small for a wide foot so I changed them too. On the good side, it glides very well and is an acceptable bike for the price.
  • Schwinn Biggity with ape hanger handle bars and a Schwinn extra wide seat and back kickstand..

  • A: You can raise the seat but you would need new forks to raise the handlebars

Q: gearing ? How many teeth in front and what cassette in the rear ? thanks

2 Answers
  • A: I haven't counted to be sure, but whatever it is, it is too large in the front and not large enough in the back. Front is probably about a 42 range and the back is 8-28. The rear cassette is easy to change and the derailleur works well (7-speed Shimano grip shift) however the crankset has an obscure bolt pattern so the front is trickier, but necessary to get a more trail-suitable gearing ratio. To change it up you need to find a square tapered crankset, which was made by RaceFace pre-1999. If you can find one of those, then you can swap it in and basically attach any size front ring. I am on the hunt because with a new gearing ratio this bike is going to be great for trails as well as commuting. I am also swapping my brakes out for some hydraulics I have laying around - highly recommended.

Q: The specs say this bike has yellow wheels. Is that an option or special order? The specs say this adult bike has yellow wheels, but the picture and one I saw at the store has aluminum. However, the kids version has bright green wheels, so maybe that is an option?
