Had tank vent closed while in storage, notice tank had collapsed on itself. Didn’t think much of it but next time on the lake, tank was about half full and engine starter running rough. Found air coming from fuel tank. Pickup tube in tank had split because of tank collapse. This is my 2nd Scepter fuel tank of two different models, never buying this brand again

A: Hi nidex - Scepter fuel containers are color coded and marked to indicate to safety personnel the contents of the container in case of an emergency and to prevent accidental poisoning. Q: Why doesn't the brass fitting I bought thread into the fuel tank pick-up? Brass fitting (part # 079-9056-8) will not thread into the fuel pick-up on gas tank. When you rotate the fitting the part that connects to the hose fitting contacts the edge of the fuel tank and prevents you from being able to thread it down.

1 Answer

A: The elbow style pick-up can be screwed out of the tank for installation of that particular style of fitting. In order to loosen it we would recommend using a pair of pliers to get it started Once the fuel pick-up is lifted from the tank itself it will provide enough clearance to install the fitting. Once the fitting is connected it can be screwed back into the receiving outlet and tightened. Once again we recommend using pliers to ensure it is tightened thoroughly.

Q: Should the pressure release valve be open during motor operation? The tank collapses in on itself. Should the valve be open while the motor is in use? Fully or partially? Will water still be prevented from entering the top of the tank?

A: The valve should be open during use and closed for storage and transportation. If the tank is submerge in the bilge, water could enter through the valve.
