Hello Ray8- For your safety you should never expose a plastic gas can direct sunlight, as the heat can cause the gasoline to evaporate and expand, leading to dangerous pressure buildup and potential leaks or even fire. Sunlight also degrades the plastic over time, and fuels stored in direct sunlight are more prone to evaporation and chemical breakdown, reducing their quality. Instead, store gas cans in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, such as a detached shed or garage, away from ignition sources and direct sunlight. Bought this couple years ago. Went to service the boat and noticed corners of fuel tank were peeling. Took it home and after filling fuel tank and noticed a strong gas smell from my boat, found corner had split wide open filling my boat with fuel. Not impressed as it doesn’t receive a lot of sun. Always stored with boat cover. Do not recommend unless you want a ticking time bomb

Q: I need to connect this tank to a 1977 50 HP engine I plan to use hose : 079-9038-2 from canadian tire, but it doesn't seems to have the correct connector on the tank, can you suggest something ?

A: Hello. Scepter’s marine tanks do not come equipped with marine tank fittings given that they can be used with a wide range of engine brands. Once the “red dust cap” is removed, the 12 gallon tank will accept ¼” NPT fitting, which is standard in the marine industry. You will need to purchase a Mercury Tank fitting (079-9056-8) in order to connect the fuel line to our marine tank. In order to do so however, the fuel pick-up will need to be loosened, the fitting installed (with Teflon Tape), and the fuel pick-up then reinstalled. Q: Certification aside, is there anything in the design or in the materials used for this tank that would make it unsuitable for diesel?

A: Hi Redgreen - While we appreciate your interest in Scepter products our marine tanks are designed and tested as above deck fuel tanks for gasoline outboard engines on boats. In addition, fuel tanks are color coded to indicate to safety personnel the contents of the container in case of emergency and to prevent accidental poisoning, red containers are for gasoline. We do not recommend the containers be used for any use, or contain any contents other than for what it is designed. We recommend that you source a fuel tank that meets the standards for your product category. A: In response to the attached question. The 12 gallon Attwood tank is meant for use in Marine applications on boats and has only been tested and certified to be used in this application using Attwood Fuel lines and Attwood Fuel fittings. If you are using this tank on a boat to fuel a marine engine like a Mercury engine then yes it will work in that application. If not we do not authorize its use in other applications. We do not know what a tidy tank is so that the Attwood position on use of this tank.
