Hard to open

No instructions on the bag how to get into it. I fiddled with the string for 15 minutes and got frustrated. Then my wife called me stupid and gave it a go. After 10 minutes she gave up. Eventually located some scissors and managed to cut it open and get some charcoal out. Seeing as how the bag isn't resealable, it seems like alot of work.

Q: what is the contents of the Royal Charcoal.  Is there any petroleum included in this product? Should the product be burned till white before starting to cook?

2 Answers
  • A: The Lump charcoal is made from 100% hardwoods, oak and hickory woods – no petroleum products are used in the manufacturing process. If charcoal lighter fluid is used to start the lump charcoal, then it is recommended to have the product at 90% ash over/ white before placing food over the charcoal to insure all lighter fluid has been burned off.

Q: Why is the 8kg bag more than double the price of the 4kg?  Why would anyone pay extra for an 8kg bag instead of just buying two 4 kg bags? Defies basic economic theory.

  • A: I don't know why you would pay more. I have used this charcoal for over 30 years. I have now given up buying it because I find that the quality has gone down. There are always rocks in the bag (8kg), a cup or more of fine powder and tiny pieces (would pass through a half inch screen). I have wanted to measure the weight of the unusable stuff in the bag, but it's very dirty so have not bothered. I bought all the charcoal from Canadian Tire, but will not buy it anymore. J. L.
