Best tent I ever bought 12 -14 years ago

I bought two of these tents some 12 -14 years ago. When my kids were small. I’m at the campsite now remarking how good these tents have been. Was just checking to see if they were still selling them. I Never needed a tarp to cover them. We go camping 4 weeks per year on average. Remember thinking wow that was a lot of money for a tent. But the tents are still going strong

Yes, I recommend this product.

Amazing Find

This Roots tent was bought 6 years ago at Canadian Tire. We have used it every year since our purchase. It has a lifetime repair warranty which we have used to repair a broken tent pole. This tent has done us wonders. In these 6 years we have expanded our family with a lab and two children and it still holds room for us all and more. We just had our biggest camping outing yet with a cot, a playpen and an air mattress fitted into our sleeping quarters. We also still had room for a dog bed, and 3 bags of clothing with room to still spare. We did not tarp over the tent and rain did come twice during our trip but still no leak. It's a little worn by the grommets on the bottom to hold the tent poles but aside from that it is a fantastic tent and well worth the money. It has enough room for my husband to stand in the middle and he is 5'11. Set up is easy as long as you remember the teardrop shape on top. We put a tarp under the tent to help with any potential sticks or sharp rocks we missed when picking our spot to set up. Always let your tent of any kind dry completely before packing away to prevent mold. It also helps to store your tent indoors for the winter off the ground. We hope anyone looking at this tent as a family purchase or just for the mere space will enjoy it just as much as our family has.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: What is the approximate setup time for one person

5 Answers
  • A: If you've put up tents before, around 15 minutes. I've put it up alone many times, never took me more time.

Q: Tent Bottom not tarp material? It is concerning me that apparently it is only a nylon material on the bottom of the tent...have people really had major problems with it?

5 Answers
  • A: Tarp bottom? Why would you want that. Nylon bottoms that are taped are way better for weather and strength. I've put my coleman kenai up on rocks, no ground sheet with beachsand inside and not a single tear. I thought tarp bottoms where for cheap/kiddy tents.

Q: The height of the tent

  • A: I was looking for more info on the tent also. I e-mailed Roots who gave me this: "In an effort to help you, I contacted Canadian Recreational Products, the manufacturer of our Roots Outdoors collection sold at Canadian Tire. They have informed us that the base size of this tent is 13"x10'9", centre height is 75", sleeps 7 people with an area measurement of 124 Square Feet." I wish someone would review, but I'm picking one up this week. J

Q: Is this able to stand alone? I was wondering if this tent is somewhat about to "stand alone." Could we use it on a wooden tent pad or someplace with A LOT of large rocks?

  • A: You need to hook up all the pegs in order to create a good tent shape.

Q: How many mesh windows and vents in tent

3 Answers
  • A: Too Many! The top is completely mesh... go figure, mesh on the sides and front floor... sand and rain come in these ones. The worst tent design I've ever seen, and unfortunately bought.

Q: Do the interior mesh windows have a zippered flap that will zip up and keep air from entering or exiting the tent?

3 Answers
  • A: Nope, only the door windows zip up. You will need to look for a 3-4 season tent for that feature, as far as I know.

Q: Does anyone know how many seasons this tent is for?

3 Answers
  • A: Judging from the open mesh, the strength of the poles, etc. I would say 1-2 seasons.
