Canadian Tire is Not the Place to Buy an E-Bike

I purchased the Raleigh Oceania Electric Bicycle from Canadian Tire for $1,699.99 before tax, and while staff were polite, the overall experience left me very disappointed. The bike had issues right out of the box — the battery wasn’t charging properly, and the rear wheel was out of round (wobbling when pedaled off the ground). It had never been used. I moved it directly from my truck into my garage and noticed the problem immediately. At no point during the checkout process did anyone mention that e-bikes are final sale or non-exchangeable. Had I known this, I would have reconsidered the purchase. That kind of important policy should be disclosed up front — not discovered after the fact. When I contacted the store where I purchased it (Kingston Division Street), I was unable to speak with a manager despite multiple attempts — I waited over 22 minutes on hold before giving up. I contacted Canadian Tire Customer Relations on May 22, 2025 at 1:34 p.m., and the representative was helpful. She understood my concerns and provided the manufacturer contact for Raleigh: 1-800-268-6407. I called, left a message, and was impressed that Raleigh returned my call quickly. Raleigh confirmed the rear wheel was out of round and suggested I return the bike to the store for adjustment — but Canadian Tire does not perform adjustments or service on bikes. The only other option offered was to buy a wheel wrench and fix it myself. So now I’m left with a brand-new bike that needs repairs before it’s even been ridden, and no one — not the retailer or the manufacturer — is offering a proper solution. ✅ Takeaway: If you’re considering an electric bike, I highly recommend buying from a local bike shop that inspects, adjusts, and services what they sell. I assumed Canadian Tire would stand behind their products with a return or exchange if needed — but that is absolutely not the case with e-bikes. This experience taught me to ask more questions and do more research before making large purchases from a big box store. I hope this review helps others avoid the same frustration.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: What is the battery life (distance and/or hours), how long does it take to charge and is there a battery lock?

    1 Answer
    • A: The battery life / ebike range is approximately 20-75 kms, this depends on a number of factors including the pedal assist level used (eg. Level 5 or throttle uses a lot more power than level 1), speed, gear, rider weight, cargo weight, wind, hills, tire pressure and road surface. Charge time is approximately 6 hours from empty. (The light on the charger will turn green when it is done charging). The battery comes with keys so you can lock the battery onto the bike.
