Great ... for a time

Had this unit for about 3 years. Easy install, worked well (no bracket included is a huge fail and a money grab), for a time. After year 2, it started leaking from the valve on top, barely a drip but steadily got worse where it not fills a bucket within a few days. Yes, Rainfresh will replace the head within 5 years, but I shouldn't have to deal with this scenario within a couple years, period.

Q: is it okay to use a 5 micron filter in this unit ? Will the canister sustain any extra pressures created by using the 5 micron?

2 Answers
  • A: Yes you can use the 5 micron or any other Rainfresh sediment cartridge with this unit. The micron rating of the filter cartridge does not create any additional pressure.

Q: Can you install 3 cartridges in a series? On the Rainfresh website it mentions installing 2 filters in series, the 5 micron and the 30 micron, for better filtration, but can you add a 1 micron filter as well? Would you lose too much pressure? Is this an overkill?

  • A: We have a UV system and an RO system (reverse Osmosis) - and use water from crocks in a creek, so our set up is from the pump - 30micron filter, 5 micron filter, 1 micron. Then we have the UV on the other end of that lineup/series. Upstairs we have the RO system, and a rainfresh filter with a 0.5 micron filter because the RO uses 3 *cartridges* which are almost impossible to get, and prices are on the mountaintops. It works. We end up changing our 3 filter series filters about every 2-3 months because our creek has more sediment than any municipal water supply.

Q: what is the rated GPM for the unit? Excellent answers on pressure & flow, but I'd like the actual rating to compare to other units.

  • A: Flow rate is up to 7 US GPM (26.5 lpm) @ 60 psi feed pressure

Q: Water pressure Does this filter effect the water pressure? If so how much does it slow the flow?

2 Answers
  • A: The max water pressure is 100 psi but if your pressure is over 90 they recommend putting a regulator. Suggested water pressure is 75psi. When new, the water pressure will only by slightly affected, but over time it will drop as filter clogs up. The actual time will depend if you have filter installed alone or in series or parallel or if you put too fine of a filter 1st clogging it with larger particles.

Q: Hi. This filter works for hot water?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, this filter should not be used on hot water. It is designed for whole house installation on the main cold water pipe so that all the water in the home gets filtered. If you have further questions please call Rainfresh at 1800-667-8072.
