Questions

1 - 5 of 5 Questions

Q: Can it be used to lubricate O-rings or faucet valves in plumbing applications? Thanks.

  • A: I am not entirely certain, but I would wager no. This grease is not 'food safe' and is meant for brakes, not plumbing.

Q: Can Permatex Green Silicone Brake Lubricant be used as a dielectric grease on spark plug boots? It would be nice to know if it is multipurpose rather than needing to buy several different products that rarely get used.

  • A: The packaging does not indicate it can be used as dielectric grease. The package indicates it is to be used as a brake lubricant.

Q: Good day Is the Permatex silicone brake lubricant green be used on all disk brake parts like Slider pins that go into the rubber boot, outside brake pads and all other parts that would need anti-seize.

  • A: Let me start by saying I am not a professional mechanic. That being said, what you describe is exactly what I used it for - slide pins and the backside/edges of brake pad backing. I also used it on my stabilizer bar bushings. My understanding is that silicone grease doesnt become fluid at warmer temperatures caused by brake heat. Further, rubber and regular grease are not compatible. As always, pay attention to not get any on the brake pad wear surface or rotors. Hope this helps.

Q: Is this lubricant brake fluid safe? For example, using this to lubricant the o-rings inside the piston bore.

  • A: I received this question because I recently changed the rotors and pads. I'm not a mechanic but doesn't the brake fluid itself lubricate the cylinder bores?

Q: can I use this on leaf springs?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello therosehermit, thank you for the great question with respect to lubricating your leaf springs. There are many opposing views and recommendations on lubricating leaf springs. In your case, we would recommend that you check your owner's manual or with the OEM/Manufacturer of the leafs springs on your vehicle to determine whether they need to be lubricated, and if so what lubricant can be used. Also note that when lubrication is recommended, modern leaf spring metals are not compatible with petroleum based lubricants, therefore a non-petroleum based lubricant should be used.
