A: A motor mount for a small electric motor can be mounted but the sides of the canoe are very flexible and bent in whenever we turned the motor. You need to clamp a piece of wood along the inside under the gunwale of the boat to stabilize it.

Q: What is the expected longevtiy of this canoe? Would it be good for a Scout canoe - slightly abused by non-experienced paddlers on sometimes rocky rivers?

A: This would be a very good canoe for teaching Scouts as it is very stable and almost indestructible. We have had one for years and the kids have never managed to tip it. The only downside is that it is not very nimble, and is difficult to steer in wind or rough water.

A: I would recommend no more than three adults or two adults and two kids, for a total of maybe 500 - 600 pounds. Subtract people if you have gear. As an experiment, we did try to load it with 800 pounds (three adults, three kids) and I would not recommend it. We had only two or three inches of freeboard and everyone had to sit very still or we would have swamped.

A: The weight restriction of 800 pounds is optimistic. I have tried loading it to 800 pounds and the boat was nearly swamping. 500 - 600 pounds is a realistic working weight for safe operation.

A: We suggest applying layered patches to the repair cracks. A waterproof, heavy-duty glue and gel coat would also be helpful in this repair.
