The bare minimum to be functional

This will work to dig a functional cat hole, which you should do for back country camping. However, if the soil where your camping has a lot of dense roots, your going to struggle with this. Cutting some serrations on one side with a file helped a bit. Works fine in sandy soil.

After only one use in sand, the shovel had a bend mark in the plastic. These may not be the most sturdy little shovels. We bought 2, the other seemed fine.
