Slippery, no grip. My hand cramped paddling in Boston Harbor. It also feels flimsy going over calm waves on a sunny day.

Lighter is better

I upgraded my Oru paddle to a fiberglass Oru paddle. I have a little bit of arthritis in one hand and the lighter paddle helps.
I have less pain to no pain in my hand after using it so the extra money spent was well worth it.

Yes, I can feel the difference!

I thought I might not notice the weight difference, but I did immediately — and continued to notice it throughout the 4 hour maiden voyage. The paddle shape was also a noticeable difference: it was much easer to “spin” rather than torque my stroke. I had lots of fun playing with my new paddle today!

Lightweight, ribbed for grip, stuff to put together

These paddles are very nice and comfortably compact. They have ribbed shafts that give you a wonderful grip, which is not seen on the base paddles (very smooth and slick). With these, as opposed to the base model, you wouldn’t need gloves to paddle comfortably. When putting them together, however, the fitting is very tight so make sure to do so before you get your hands wet or it will be double difficult.
