A: Yes they function fine in cold weather. Note, with the shorter days they don't stay lit as long if they haven't been charged fully

Q: Where is the rechargeable battery and how do you get to it?

A: It is a solar battery located on the top. It recharges from the sun and will not charge very well in shady areas. I bought 8 of them two years ago that are outside year round. One of them stopped working within a year, the other 7 work great.

A: We screwed ours on to the fence. I can't imagine sticking would hold out in the weather. We do love our lights!
