Test them before purchase

Lovely colours on one half and the other half is completely dark. I live too far away to return. Next time I will check the entire string at the store.

Since you mentioned that returning it to the store is not convenient for you, we recommend checking the fuses and bulbs to ensure they are properly connected and not burnt out, as this might resolve the issue. For bulb replacement, please use only 2.5 V, 0.425 W super bright type lamps as indicated in the manual. Additionally, ensure the string is plugged into a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet for optimal performance.

one problem I have with outdoor light is the wires stand out during the day. These do not. the brown wire looks like any of the branches on the tree

The product is as described. Plugged the string in and all the lights work as expected. They are outside on a Noma outdoor timer, and so far no issues. Easy to install.
