Questions

1 - 8 of 8 Questions

Q: Can I plug 2 extension cords on this one? We are going camping with 2 tents and both are going to use a mini electric heater #043-5100-0. Please advise.

  • A: The heater you identified is rated at 250W. If you used the Y extender for two extension cords, with two heaters, you would be drawing about 500W. A normal household circuit - and most engine-driven portable generators - will have no trouble with this configuration. If you are thinking of powering the heaters with one of the common battery 'power generators' that are popular among camping enthusiasts, I would re-think your plan.

  • A: Yes, although I haven’t tried that myself. You would want to make sure that you have the extension cord plugged into an outlet with enough amps

  • A: Sometimes it's hard to fit your plug directly in the supplied socket, such as a big transformer plug into an exterior socket with a flip-open cover. This gives you room.

Q: Could I plug a freezer and a window AC unit in on the same extension cord with this? It's an older house so I don't want to blow the fuse.

1 Answer
  • A: Please refer the user to the owner’s manual of the both devices. If they say, DO NOT USE with Extension Cord, then the answer is no. If the owner’s manual does not preclude the use of extension cords, then add the total wattage of each device together to arrive at the total watts. For example, The freezer might be 5 Amps or 600 Watts and the A/C might be 13 Amps or 1560 Watts. The extension cord in question is either rated 1625 (16 AWG) or 1875 (14 AWG) watts. Adding 600 + 1560 = 2160 watts. In this example the 2160 watts exceeds the rating of the cord (1625 or 1875) and the answer is no the cord cannot be used for these appliances.

Q: does this not overload the original socket , if you are using a few power to0ls at once i.e. there are more than one person there using the tools , so

  • A: The maximum amperage in a household outlet is 15 amps.  Anytime you plug in and use multiple pieces of equipment that exceeds 15 amps you will blow your circuit breaker. This product has multiple outlets but you are still using it on a 15 amp circuit which means you will need to monitor equipment use and make sure it does not exceed 15 amps.  A low amperage drill, Dremel tool  and a ¼ sheet sander are examples of tools you might be able to use simultaneously.  Stationary power tools typically have more powerful motosr which means you may not be able to use more than one tool at a time.
