Cute Jars

The Hummingbirds, those little garden jewels, love these smaller jars. BUT the ants also seem to love the draw of the food. Sugar freaks, and the ants end up crawling up into the little flowers, which the tiny birds will then avoid. Canadian Tire also had beautiful feeders, which we have purchased in the past, and the ants seem to have to work harder to get inside the larger style. The task sometimes takes effort to add to the feeders without spilling the contents onto the ground to prevent the insects from also enjoying the food. Bugs in jars just mean another round of home made hummingbird food.

Nice thought though.

No hummingbirds, just ants even when hung 15 feet in the tree.

Simple Hummingbird feeder

This is easy to clean, doesn't take a lot of food, hanger is made of strong material and is very simply made. The flowers pop out easily to clean, some pop out too easily and must be checked periodically to make sure they are pushed in.

Q: Nature's Way Mason Jar Hummingbird Bird Feeder: Where is this hummingbird feeder made? What country?

  • A: I don’t know where it’s made as I have put it away somewhere. The hummingbirds in my area ignored this feeder. I think it doesn’t have enough red on it to attract them.

Q: Looks like the hummingbird could only feed if the jar is full?

  • A: Thanks for your inquiry, Deb3955. Rest assured the hummingbirds can reach the nectar even when your feeder isn’t full. Hummingbirds stick their beaks into the port and then stick their tongues into the nectar (their tongues are twice as long as their beaks) so there will be no problem with reaching the nectar if the feeder is not filled completely. Happy Birding!
