Q: My current feeder is a pole system and the feeder sits on top. An small extension sits in top of pole and is in or attached to bottom of feeder. Does this feeder have that capability? Its the Nature's Way Cedar Hopper Bird Feeder #142-9169-8

A: Thanks for your inquiry, tgwritess. Before starting to mount, I must warn you that as this feeder is bamboo and is much harder to drill than typical cedar feeders. The bars across the bottom that hold the seed tray can be used to mount a pole mount unit. If mounted on a 4x4, there are post mount units you can mount the same way to the feeder and then fit over the 4x4 post, OR you can remove the seed tray and drill directly through the wooden bars and into the top surface of the 4x4 post. Might be best to counter-sink the screws so the seed tray will sit level. The hanger can be removed from the feeder as it won’t be needed. Be aware that any feeder or bird house mounted to a 4x4 post provides easier access for squirrels or raccoons to disturb the feeder. Q: How much does the feeder actually weigh (I have this same size/brand of feeder without suet cages and it weighs over 6 pounds) and is the roof actually hinged like in the photo?
