Failed First Try

I'm hoping this was just a fluke or one-off, but my first experience was actually a little scary with this heater. I will say it produced great heat for the short time it lived. I had it set up in a 20x15 area while I was working. I got it started up and was working great, so I put my hearing protection on and went to work cutting up some metal. I wasn't paying too much attention to the heater until I took my hearing protection off and it sounded like a freight train behind me. I turned around to find the heater almost in a runaway state, with the burner tubes underneath glowing red and getting close to the injector area. I shut the tank off immediately and gave it some distance while it cooled. It was over running so bad, it actually heated up the tank to fixture hose a considerable amount. It also melted all the bushings in the frame, so it no longer stays tilted, and the affixed tags partially burned. I haven't returned the product yet as I haven't had time, but it will be returned soon. I liked the amount of heat, but I'm hesitant to try another. I read the manual to follow setup and lighting, and didn't see any particular warnings other than operating distances and general propane warnings. I was using the fixture at an angle to direct more of the heat my direction when it failed. Maybe it would work better when totally vertical, but it has the ability to pivot.

WooHoo! My garage is warm (when I need it) four years now, those nasty pie heaters would barely give me one and a half winters. Good idea to get a 40 pound tank 'cause heat ain't free.

A: The 540 Degree Tank Top Heater is designed to connect to the tank collar on a standard 20 lb. propane cylinder. Most standard vertical 5 or 10 lb. propane cylinders should have the same or similar sized tank collar as a standard 20 lb. cylinder, but verify this to be sure. Have a great day!
